With deep roots in industry Rosebery has a strong working class ethos. However, in recent times Rosebery has been switching gears as it adopts a burgeoning foodie and designer scene. Developers have also been busy transforming areas of the neighbourhood, but it’s the warehouses which have been given a new lease on life that are putting Rosebery on everyone’s radar.

Rosebery has been turning heads because of its warehouse conversions, creative spaces and foodie hangouts. And although there are still elements of grit, Rosebery is coming into its own and Sydneysiders can’t get enough of it.

Industry is still a strong fixture but big names on the foodie scene are moving into the neighbourhood. Whether it be at The Cannery (a hub for food, drink and homewares) or in their own bricks and mortars, they are contributing to Rosebery’s gentrification.

The main arteries, Botany and Gardeners Roads, are bustling every day of the week. Small businesses occupy shop fronts – some have been here for generations while others are only starting to make their mark on the neighbourhood. Step away from the main roads and the streets adopt a homely ambience.

Developers have been hard to keep at bay in Rosebery, with high density apartments becoming a prominent fixture on the main streets. But who can blame them given Rosebery’s central location – close to Sydney airport, the Sydney CBD and the University of New South Wales. 

With a strong working class backbone, Rosebery has long been home to families of European and Asian descent. The new developments have attracted more students and young professionals to the area and the freestanding homes are being snatched up by young families, DINKS (double income no kids) and mature empty nesters, all of who are helping to bring about the gentrification of the neighbourhood.

Property in Rosebery is multifaceted to say the least. From the high-density developments sprouting up along Botany Road and surrounding streets in Rosebery’s north to the warehouse and industrial spaces along Dunning Avenue.

Rosebery also has a sprinkling of terrace houses and workmen’s’ cottages, but it’s the detached Federation and California bungalows that are highly prized for their land and renovation potential.
